What is ESPG? |
ESPG stands for: Emergency Services Provider Group; a company that provides Mental Health Emergency Service Providers (ESPs) for participating communities or regions across the United States.
What does an ESP do? |
An ESP is a State (specific) Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) that responses to 988 calls or Emergency Services Beacon calls via the WL WELL VHS mobile app.
An ESP provides in-person mental health services to persons in need without the necessity of police involvement. In other words, an ESP request for services will not result in a services recipient being shot or harmed by law enforcement.
Is the ESPG a government agency? |
No. The ESPG is a 501(C)(3) community service company, funded by private donations, grants, supporters, and in some cases, local city or county governments. Funds raised are to provide services in areas where we are able to operate - Full Stop.
Why was the ESPG created? |
Because it's needed. State, County, and municipal governments routinely talk about the need for certified mental health responders without the need for police involvement, but they are never created. The reason? Because every governmental entity mitigates legal (financial) liability by using law enforcement as responders for everything; to disastrous effect.
ESPs from the ESPG are not Police officers or City employees (although they may be contracted to work closely with City or Tribal Emergency Services.
